Maria Prymachenko is one of the most famous Ukrainian artists, a bright representative of “naive art”, a winner of Shevchenko National Prize (1966). The year 2009 was declared the year of Maria Prymachenko by UNESCO; Likhachev boulevard in Kyiv was renamed in her honor in the same year. Maria Aksentievna Primachenko (1908–1997) was a Ukrainian peasant. Her astonishingly fertile picture plane was located in the flat limitless horizon of the Ukrainian steppe. As a young girl, she contracted polio, and this grave illness affected her childood’s life.

Maria Primachenko was an outstanding painter and amazing master of art of the 20th century. In 1936 won the first-class diploma when she participated in the exhibition of folk art. Her compositions were exhibited all over the former Soviet Union and abroad, including Poland, Bulgaria, France, and Canada.
